WHAT TO DO IN Tulou

The Tulou (土楼), meaning “earthen buildings,” are traditional communal residences of the Hakka people, primarily found in Fujian Province in southeastern China. These striking circular and rectangular fortified structures are built from earth, wood, and stone, often several stories high, and have housed entire clans for centuries. Recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Tulou offer a unique window into China’s rural architectural and cultural heritage.
