Turpan Travel Guide

Turpan (also spelled Turfan), located in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of northwest China, is an ancient oasis city known for its scorching summer heat, vast desert landscapes, ancient Silk Road heritage, and rich Uyghur culture. It's one of the lowest and hottest places in China, nestled in the Turpan Depression at around 154 meters (505 feet) below sea level.

Why Visit Turpan

  • Unique Desert Landscapes: Sand dunes, flaming mountains, and vast grape valleys.

  • Silk Road History: Ancient ruins, underground irrigation systems, and Buddhist caves.
