JORDAN HIKING : DANA - PETRA - WADI RUM
OVERVIEW
This journey through Jordan begins in the capital city of Amman, where you are warmly welcomed upon arrival. From there, you venture into the stunning landscapes of Wadi Ben Hammad, with its lush vegetation and natural hot springs, before exploring the historical Kerak Castle. Continuing, you hike through the scenic Dana Reserve, camp under the stars, and immerse yourself in the red sandstone cliffs and hidden oases of Wadi Hamra. The adventure takes you through the breathtaking Wadi Ghuweir, with its high-walled gorges, before arriving at the iconic city of Petra.
You explore Petra’s ancient marvels, taking the back route to the Monastery El Deir and climbing to the High Place of Sacrifice for panoramic views. The journey then shifts to the mystical desert of Wadi Rum, where you hike the country’s highest peak, Jabal Um Adami, and experience the tranquil beauty of the desert landscape through a 4x4 tour.
Day 1 : Amman Airport - Amman Hotel
Ahlan Wa Sahlan - Welcome to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan! Our representative meets you before the immigration and assists you with the procedure.
Overnight in Amman.

Day 2 : Amman Hotel - Wadi Ben Hammad - Kerak Castle - Dana Hotel
From the capital we drive a little more than 2 hours to Wadi Ben Hammad. A steep road winds down to this valley and soon you find yourself in sub-tropical surroundings. The route starts at a hot spring. Along a stream walk through lush vegetation, see pinkflowering oleanders, palms, hanging gardens and small waterfalls. The hike is easy and takes 3 to 4 hours, as you walk through water you need to wear proper shoes.
From Ben Hammad we drive around 30 km to the remains of the Crusader Castle in Kerak with its underground passageways.
Overnight at a simple hotel in the small village of Dana.

Day 3 : Dana Hotel - Wadi Hamra Hike - Wild Camping
South of Dana Village lies the area of Jabal Barra, from where we make our way deeper in the nature reserve. Passing meadows, white sandstone domes, Nabatean tombs we walk and sometimes scramble down to a long valley with red sandstone cliffs. This is Wadi Hamra. Proceeding further into the valley via zigzag tracks we reach the oasis of Hammam Adethni with its palm trees and oleanders. Expect wet feet when crossing the water streams.
Dinner and overnight at a bivouac camp.

Day 4 : Wadi Ghuweir Hike - Petra Hotel
Go on an adventure to one of the beautiful wadis in Jordan, Wadi Ghuweir. Follow a water stream through the high-walled gorge with its unique, changing landscape.
You see interesting rock formations and hanging gardens. The hike is moderate and about 17 km long. In some parts you need to climb a little bit, your feet and ankles will definitely get wet. From the village of Mansoura you will be picked up and taken for one hour to your hotel in Petra.
Please note, the hike is not possible in winter and after rain because of the risk of flash floods.

Day 5 : Petra Back Route Hike to El Deir - Petra Hotel
Petra offers several trails to explore more of the vast, ancient city. Today we take the back route from Little Petra to the Monastery El Deir. We start from Little Petra, pass by the remains of the Neolithic village Beidah, walk across open farmland before we enter mountainous area. The path opens up to see the impressive façade of the Monastery El Deir, 45 meters high, cut in the sandstone rock.
Follow the around 800 stairs down to the lower parts of Petra, where you recognize the main trail ending at the main gate. The hike is moderate and takes about 4 hours to reach the Monastery.

Day 6 : Petra High Place & Wadi Farasa 6 Hours Hike – Wadi Rum Camp
Rise early for another adventure in Petra. With your guide pass by the Obelisk Tomb and the Triclinium before heading to the Al Madras area. After a steep ascent and some scrambling, you reach the viewpoint to see the Treasury from above. We continue to the High Place of Sacrifice, like the name suggests, a spot for religious ceremonies.
After a rest, turn right to Wadi Farasa, during your descent walk past the Lion Relief, the Roman Soldier Tomb and the Garden Temple. Close to Qasr Al Bint you reach the regular trail again and return through the Siq to the main gate of Petra.
In the afternoon drive 1.5 hours to your campsite in Wadi Rum.

Day 7 : Hike to Jabal Um Adami (1,854 meters) - Wadi Rum Camp
After breakfast we embark a 4x4 and drive about 40 km through the desert in southern direction, to Jabal Um Adami. This is the highest mountain in Jordan, located right on the border to Saudi Arabia. The hike and scramble with your Bedouin guide to the top is not difficult, no rope is needed, and it takes normally about 2.5 hours. Nevertheless, you need a good level of fitness and surefootedness to do this activity.
When reaching the height of 1,854 meters you have magnificent views to Saudi Arabia in the south and of Wadi Rum in the north. After the descend we have lunch and a rest. Back in the jeeps we cross Wadi Sabet, a remote and beautiful valley.
One and a half to two hours later we are back at the campsite for another night in the incredible Wadi Rum desert.

Day 8 : Wadi Rum 3 hours jeep ride – Amman Hotel
Hop in a 4x4 again and with your Bedouin driver uncover more of the vast desert. You see canyons, red sand dunes, Nabatean rock inscriptions and a natural rock bridge formed over centuries. A long-distance drive of four hours lies ahead of you, taking you from the peaceful desert to the busy capital.
Relax in the car until you reach Amman, check into your hotel.

Day 9 : Amman Hotel - Amman Airport
At a pre-arranged time, pickup from your hotel lobby in Amman. Your driver takes you for about 50 minutes to Amman Airport to say farewell - Ma’a Salamah!
