OVERVIEW
This five-day cycling and trekking tour of Flores’ bounty of natural beauty ticks all the boxes for active adventurers. Our exciting excursion starts with us heading to Moni, a quaint hill town that sits at the foot of incredible Kelimutu Volcano. No trip to the area is complete without a jaunt up this peak to stand in awe of the incredible three coloured crater lakes. Other breath-taking natural phenomenon includes the turquoise stones at Penggajawa Beach and cloud forests.
Along the way, we soak up island culture and stop-off at several traditional villages, including Luba and Bena, to get a glimpse into local life and be warmed by local hospitality. We also marvel at the simply striking ‘spider web rice fields’ at Cancar and feast on fine local food throughout our travels.
Day 1 : Ende – Moni (B / - / -)
Start this five-day excursion relaxing into laid-back life in the picturesque hill town of Moni. Upon arrival at Ende Airport, we will be met by our guide and taken on a scenic scenic-hour drive to Moni.
Along the way, we will make several stops at picturesque villages and other spots to get a glimpse into local life. Upon arrival, we will check-in at the hotel and if there is time, get straight into exploration of our new surroundings on a cycling ride.

Day 2 : Moni – Kelimutu – Ende - Bajawa (B / L / D)
Natural marvels are the order of the day as we view nature at its finest. The early bird catches the worm and waking ahead of dawn is heavily rewarded as we head to Kelimutu’s striking coloured lakes.
After a 50-minute drive, we set off on a 40-minute trek to the top of Kelimutu Volcano to soak-up the simply breath-taking views of the sun pushing through the horizon (subject to weather conditions). The 1.5 km hike takes us up 127 steps to a ridge where we can enjoy unparalleled views of Kelimutu’s lakes, which are in startling green, turquoise and black craters.
We then return to the parking area and jump on our bikes to start a downhill cycle ride to the hotel to enjoy a well-deserved breakfast. We then continue on our ride to the town of Bajawa and on for another hour to Detusoko village. We then stop in Ende for lunch and visit Penggajawa Beach, or Blue Stone Beach, to admire its turquoise-coloured stones.
Overnight in Bajawa
Day 3 : Bajawa – Ruteng (B / L / D)
Flores’ rich culture is brought to life on this full-day cycling adventure. After breakfast at the resort, we set off on our expedition on a one-hour ride to the quaint traditional villages of Luba and Bena, which are two of the most famous villages in Ngada district. The area is home to impressive stone formations and ancestral shrines, as well as a collection of traditional houses.
We then continue on our ride, arriving at Aimere about 1.5 hours later. This picturesque town is famed for its fresh palm wine production. We then pause for lunch in Borong before cycling to Ruteng’s Ranamese, a mountainous natural reserve that is home to striking dense forests and a 21 metres deep crater lake that rests at an altitude of 1,220 metres.
We then take a stroll through the clouded forests and marvel at the lake before returning to our hotel.
Overnight in Ruteng
Day 4 : Ruteng (B / L / D)
Jump back on our bikes and hit more stunning countryside as we delve deeper into local life. After breakfast, we set off on a four-hour scenic cycle ride to Kenda, passing through sprawling paddies and farmland along the way.
We then continue to Ting village and Watu Alo to see how locals live and stop to visit temples and traditional houses. In the afternoon, we continue on a one-hour ride to visit Ruteng pu’u traditional houses. This traditional village preserves the ancient way of life, with a compang in the centre of the village for ceremonies and rituals.
A compang is a round platform made of stone and surrounded by a circle of stones and traditional houses. It is used for sacrificial offerings during traditional ceremonies. We then settle into our overnight accommodation for a much-deserved rest ahead of another day of cycling.
Overnight in Ruteng
Day 5 : Ruteng – Labuan Bajo – Denpasar (B / L / -)
More stunning landscapes await us on the final day of our exciting adventure. After fueling for the day on breakfast, we drive to Cancar to marvel at the unique Lingko fields. These eye-catching circular terraces are arranged like a spider’s web and if we are there at the right time of year when they are flooded with water, we can catch the sun glistening from the mirror-like pools that cover the patchwork of rice fields.
We then board a bike for a one-hour cycle around the fields and through small villages as we continue to the quaint fishing village of Labuan Bajo.
We will then head to our hotel to freshen up before lunch at a local restaurant and on to the airport for our next flight, bringing this five-day tour to an end.
