OVERVIEW

This tour takes in the highlights of South Africa's Mother City - the beautiful and vibrant Cape Town, as well as the scenic Garden Route. Table Mountain, Cape Point, Boulders Beach penguins, Route 62, Cango Caves, an Ostrich farm, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay are all some of the must-see attractions included on this tour. Also included is a stay at the entertainment Mecca Sun City and a Big Five safari at the Pilanesberg National Park.

Day 1 : Cresta Grande Cape Town, Cape Town (B / - / -)

Upon arrival at Cape Town International Airport you will be met by your driver-guide, who will be with you for the duration of your time in Cape Town, and transferred to your hotel. Your guide will meet you in the arrival hall with a name board showing your name. Please call or WhatsApp the emergency contact number on your travel vouchers in the unlikely event that you do not manage to locate your guide.

Your hotel is located in the heart of Cape Town's vibrant city centre within walking distance of the fashionable foodie district, Bree Street, which offers a variety of dining experiences.

Enjoy the afternoon and evening at your own leisure, depending on your arrival time there are several options of things to do in the city. No driver-guide and vehicle included.

You will be met by your guide in your hotel reception area and taken on a Half Day Cape Town City Orientation Tour to learn about Cape Town’s rich history and vibrant cultures.  The day starts with a cableway trip to the top of one of the World’s Natural Wonders – Table Mountain, also the city’s most iconic and recognisable landmark. Explore the walking trails at the top and take in the many different views point across the City Bowl, Table Bay, Atlantic Seaboard and Peninsula.

From Table Mountain your guide will take you back down into the city to visit the colourful Bo Kaap (Cape Malay Quarter), enjoy a walk through the Company Gardens and Greenmarket Square and an orientation drive taking in some of the important historical buildings (for example the Castle of Good Hope – South Africa’s oldest building), streets and features.

Table Mountain Cableway :

A trip up Table Mountain is quite rightly one of the first things a tourist wants to do when arriving in Cape Town. Once on the top, a 1000m above the city below, you are rewarded with spectacular 360 views. Take your time and enjoy this unique environment, go for a walk or have a bit to eat at the restaurant with arguably one of the best views possible.
   
South African Museum :

Iziko South African Museum in Cape Town is a cultural gem showcasing the natural and cultural heritage of South Africa. The museum houses fascinating exhibitions on palaeontology, archaeology, anthropology, and natural history, featuring impressive collections of fossils, artefacts, and indigenous flora and fauna. It offers an enriching experience for visitors seeking to explore the country's diverse past and natural wonders.

Company's Garden :

The Company's Garden, located in Cape Town, is a tranquil oasis in the heart of the city. This historic garden dates back to the 17th century and was originally established as a refreshment station by the Dutch East India Company. Today, it is a popular public park that offers a serene escape from the bustling city streets. The garden features lush lawns, beautiful flower beds, and majestic trees, providing a peaceful setting for leisurely strolls and picnics. It is also home to several notable landmarks, including the South African Museum, the Planetarium, and the famous Delville Wood Memorial Garden.

Bo-Kaap :

Bo-Kaap is a neighbourhood in Cape Town set on the slopes of Signal Hill and was originally established by members of the Cape Malay community who were brought to Cape Town during the 18th century as slaves. Bo-Kaap is known for its brightly coloured homes, beautiful mosques and vibrant culture. It is a popular tourist attraction and one of the most photographed areas in Cape Town. Visitors can explore the area on foot or take a guided tour to learn about its history and culture. Bo-Kaap is also home to many restaurants, cafes and shops offering traditional cuisine and handmade crafts from local artisans.
   
Greenmarket Square :

Greenmarket Square, situated in Cape Town, has a rich history that dates back to the 17th century as a trading hub for fresh vegetables sourced from the Company's Garden. Today, Greenmarket Square is a bustling public square renowned for its vibrant flea market. Visitors can explore an array of stalls offering local crafts, artwork, clothing, and souvenirs. The square also hosts live performances, adding to its lively atmosphere. Greenmarket Square remains a popular destination for both locals and tourists, serving as a vibrant cultural and commercial centre in Cape Town.

You will be met by your guide in your hotel reception area and taken on a Full Day Cape Peninsula Tour. Cape Town is frequently acknowledged and awarded as being one of the world’s most beautiful places – this tour will show you why! Experience the spectacular natural splendour and abundance of life of the Cape Peninsula. With scenic views to take your breath away and photo opportunities galore this trip also takes you through a World Heritage Site – the Cape Floral Kingdom.

Travel along the Atlantic Seaboard to Hout Bay, passing magnificent beaches and the coastal suburbs of Clifton, Camps Bay and Llandudno. From the busy fishing harbour at Hout Bay you have the option of a boat trip to see the thousands of Cape Fur Seals living on a rocky outcrop. Browse for souvenirs at the Hout Bay Craft Market or take a walk on the beach and paddle your feet in the sea.

The tour continues over Chapman’s Peak, known as one of the most spectacular scenic drives in the world, all the way along the Peninsula to the southern tip at Cape Point. An invigorating walk takes you to the two lighthouses at the top and bottom of the headland, from where you will enjoy extraordinary views of the cliffs and the ocean below. Alternatively, you could take an optional short funicular ride to the top. Take a photo down at the most south-western point of the African continent at the Cape of Good Hope beach.

Lunch will be enjoyed at a seaside restaurant (excluded and for your own account) before we make our way along the False Bay coastline to the Naval village of Simon’s Town. We will visit the delightful African Penguins of Boulders Beach and then the drive takes us back via Cape Town’s coastal and southern suburbs.

Camps Bay :

Camps Bay is a wealthy coastal suburb located just ten minutes from the city bowl. Set on the slopes of Table Mountain, it overlooks a series of beautiful sandy bays and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.  Camps Bay is home to Cape Town’s most glamorous beach.
   
Hout Bay :

The originally small fishing village of Hout Bay is now a popular suburb of Cape Town. Over and above being a lovely family beach, it has many tourist attractions which include the World of Birds, a township tour to the vibrant Imizamo Yethu, arts and crafts, boat rides out to Seal Island and some great, casual restaurants where you can relax and enjoy the surroundings.
   
Chapman's Peak :

Chapman’s Peak Drive winds its way between Noordhoek and Hout Bay. Situated on the Atlantic Coast, at the southwestern tip of South Africa, it is one of the most spectacular scenic drives in the world. The 9km route, with its 114 curves, skirts the rocky coastline of Chapman's Peak. The drive offers stunning 180-degree views with many areas along the route where visitors can stop and take in the scenery or sit down for a relaxing picnic.
   
Cape of Good Hope :

Cape of Good Hope is located near the southernmost tip of the African continent in South Africa. The cape is surrounded by beaches, coves, and cliffs, making it a popular location for sightseeing. The Cape of Good Hope is well known for its rich history. It was an important stop on the early trade routes between Europe and Asia. Today, the location is a popular tourist attraction. It provides visitors with stunning views and is also home to a variety of wildlife.

Cape Point :

Cape Point is a spectacular sight, covered in endemic fynbos and home to breathtaking bays, beaches and rolling green hills and valleys, just 60km outside of Cape Town. Cape Point falls within the Cape Floral Region, a World Heritage Site. The Cape Floral Region is one of the richest areas for plants in the world – it is home to nearly 20% of Africa’s flora. Cape Point is open daily and is a must-see.
   
Boulders Beach :

Boulders Beach is located in Cape Town, South Africa. It is a sheltered beach made up of inlets between granite boulders and crystal clear waters. The area is home to one of the largest breeding colonies of African penguins. Visitors can observe the penguins close up from elevated boardwalks while enjoying beautiful views. It is a popular location for swimming, snorkelling, and birdwatching.
   
Simons Town :

Simon's Town (sometimes spelled Simonstown, is a town near Cape Town, which is home to the South African Navy. It is located on the shores of False Bay, on the eastern side of the Cape Peninsula. For more than two centuries it has been a naval base and harbour (first for the Royal Navy and now the South African Navy). The town is named after Simon van der Stel, an early governor of the Cape Colony.
   
Muizenberg :

Muizenberg is a vibrant coastal town with a rich history and stunning beach. Its origins date back to the 18th century, and it has grown into a popular destination for surfers and beach enthusiasts. The beach is renowned for its consistent waves, attracting surfers of all skill levels. Along the shoreline, you'll find iconic and colourful bathing boxes that add a touch of charm to the area. History buffs can explore the Rhodes Cottage Museum and Het Posthuys Museum, which provide insights into the town's past. The Battle of Muizenberg's historical site commemorates a significant event during the Anglo-Dutch war. For entertainment, the Masque Theatre offers a diverse program of live performances. Additionally, Casa Labia, a stunning Italian-inspired mansion, houses an art gallery, café, and cultural centre.

This morning your rental car will be dropped off at your hotel at 08.30. Set off on your self-drive adventure to the Garden Route.

Arrive in Knysna in the late afternoon, check-in at your hotel and proceed to the departure point for your John Benn sunset Cruise on the lagoon. This evening enjoy dinner at the Knysna Waterfront which offers a variety of restaurant options to choose from. 

Knysna :

Sandwiched between the towering Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean, Knysna is a large town often referred to as the ‘Garden of Eden’, surrounded by stunning bays perfect for sailing, boating, and swimming; picturesque beaches and lagoons; and world-renowned forests. This well-catered town is also a perfect base for safari expeditions at nearby parks such as Knysna Elephant Park, and close-up animal experiences at centres such as Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary, Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre, Birds of Eden, and Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary. From here, enjoy ample opportunities for surfing, swimming, yachting, jet-skiing, boating, fishing, and golfing. Visitors can also look forward to an array of wonderful markets, a picturesque waterfront filled with superb restaurants and shops, and several fantastic art galleries. Make sure to take a ferry trip to the famed Knysna Heads and sample the local oysters.

Depart your hotel at 08.00 sharp for your full day self-drive trip to Oudtshoorn, which lies 120km (2-hours’ drive) from Knysna, traveling inland over the spectacular Outeniqua Pass and into the Klein Karoo, a semi-desert region.

Your first stop will be at the Cango Caves, which are situated 30km / 30-minutes’ drive outside of Oudtshoorn. Here you will join the Heritage Tour at 11.00 - an easy walk through the first six largest and most spectacular halls and continuing through to the "African Drum room". This tour commences with information on the real discoverers and inhabitants of the cave and then winds its way through the rest of the Caves’ cultural and historical heritage. A comfortable walk through the most majestic of the cave chambers.  Experienced and knowledgeable guides will accompany you on this journey of discovery and knowledge which takes around 1-hour to complete.

Next you will go on to the Cango Wildlife Ranch in time for a quick lunch at the restaurant there, followed by a guided 1-hour tour of the facility. The ranch has been in existence for 35 years and comprises of over 90 different species of animals. The guided tours provide a voice for each species and create animal and environmental awareness. Enveloped in a fun and unique setting, this is a one-of-a-kind centre that has something for everyone, 365 days of the year!

Your last stop for the day is Safari Ostrich Farm for a guided tractor tour where you will get to meet and learn more about these large flightless birds that have had such a big impact on the economy of the town. This tour also takes 1-hour, after which you can shop for some ostrich leather products in the shop.
You will then travel back to Knysna, arriving in the early evening.

Drive to George Airport for your flight to Johannesburg. On arrival you will be met and transferred privately by road (approximately 2.5 hours drive) to the Sun City Resort where you will spend the next 2 days enjoying some rest and relaxation as well as the many opportunities for fun and excitement with all of the activities and entertainment on offer at the resort. 

Sun City :

Stretching along the border of the Pilanesberg National Park, in the North West Province, Sun City is internationally renowned as South Africa's premier holiday resort and offers a multitude of attractions and activities. With its combination of golfing, gaming, and gambling, as well as world-class hotels, this destination is often referred to as a 'mini Las Vegas in the African bush'. Families can enjoy the impressive waterpark and maze, while nature lovers can explore the incredible Pilanesberg National Park, where they can see all of the Big Five. Make sure to take the fascinating Leeto-Kgolo Village Tour to get an idea of the area's ancient culture. Sun City is also known as the only surf-and-safari destination within a two-hour drive of the landlocked city of Johannesburg.

Enjoy a full day at leisure to enjoy the wide variety of entertainment, activities and dining options at the Sun City resort. 

Pilanesberg National Park :

The world-famous Pilanesberg Game Reserve is situated in South Africa’s North West Province, north of Rustenburg. Set inside an alkaline volcanic crater (one of three in the world), characterised by vast ridges, the park’s fascinating rock and history attracts geologists and photographers from all over the world. Pilanesberg is also known for its mammoth achievement of re-introducing numerous long-vanished species and is home to roughly 360 bird species. It is a beautiful place in which to catch sight of the ‘Big Five’ as well as cheetah, giraffe, hippo, zebra, crocodile, and many other animals. Around 360 bird species also inhabit the park. An array of activities are on offer, including guided walks, game drives, and hot-air balloon rides. It is also possible to watch traditional tribal dance performances, participate in music workshops, and enjoy luxury spa experiences.
   
Valley of Waves :

The Valley of Waves water park is Sun City’s legendary hub for all kinds of water fun. Offering family-friendly water activities that appeal to adventurers of all ages, there is something for everyone at this iconic Sun City water park. Both day visitors and Sun City Resort guests are invited to enjoy a full day of exciting activities, with a designated children’s area and lifeguards on duty. The main attraction at Valley of Waves is the Roaring Lagoon – a 6 500 square metre wave pool with hydraulic mechanisms that generate waves of nearly 2 metres high every 90 seconds.

The Maze of The Lost City :

The largest permanent maze in the Southern Hemisphere, The Maze of the Lost City is constructed from artificial stone and wood, creating the illusion of an ancient archaeological discovery. It’s just as much fun for families to explore, as it is for team building and corporate functions. The Maze of the Lost City was added to Sun City Resort in September 2012 and covers a half-acre. The Maze is accessed via a 100 metre-long suspension bridge from the Entertainment Centre and offers some of the most spectacular views of the resort, particularly of The Palace of the Lost City and the Gary Player Golf Course. When night falls, flaming torches light the paths along the chambers. At the end of The Maze of the Lost City is the Maze Bar that has a selection of ice-cold craft beers on tap. The craft beer menu is updated regularly so you can always expect something new at this unique Sun City maze bar. This Sun City maze can be hired out for private parties, conferences or as a dining area, hosting up to 200 people.

Day 9 : Bakubung Bush Lodge, Pilanesberg National Park (B / - / D) 

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and the morning at leisure at the resort. At 12.00 you will transfer from Sun City to your lodge in the Pilanesberg National Park. 
Lunch is served and from there you will check-in and have an orientation of the lodge followed by your afternoon game drive which departs at 15.00. Return in time for dinner at the lodge.

Pilanesberg National Park :

The world-famous Pilanesberg Game Reserve is situated in South Africa’s North West Province, north of Rustenburg. Set inside an alkaline volcanic crater (one of three in the world), characterised by vast ridges, the park’s fascinating rock and history attracts geologists and photographers from all over the world. Pilanesberg is also known for its mammoth achievement of re-introducing numerous long-vanished species and is home to roughly 360 bird species. It is a beautiful place in which to catch sight of the ‘Big Five’ as well as cheetah, giraffe, hippo, zebra, crocodile, and many other animals. Around 360 bird species also inhabit the park. An array of activities are on offer, including guided walks, game drives, and hot-air balloon rides. It is also possible to watch traditional tribal dance performances, participate in music workshops, and enjoy luxury spa experiences.
