Day 1 : Hyatt Regency Cape Town, Cape Town (B / - / -)

Arrival in Cape Town

Upon arrival at Cape Town International Airport you will be met by your driver-guide, who will be with you for the duration of your time in Cape Town, and transferred to your hotel. Your guide will meet you in the arrival hall with a name board showing your name. Please call or WhatsApp the emergency contact number on your travel vouchers in the unlikely event that you do not manage to locate your guide.

Your hotel is located in the heart of Cape Town's vibrant city centre in the colourful Bo Kaap and within walking distance of the fashionable foodie district, Bree Street, which offers a variety of dining experiences. Your hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service to the V&A Waterfront.

You will be met by your guide in your hotel reception area and taken on a Half Day Cape Town City Orientation Tour to learn about Cape Town’s rich history and vibrant cultures.  The day starts with a cableway trip to the top of one of the World’s Natural Wonders – Table Mountain, also the city’s most iconic and recognisable landmark. Explore the walking trails at the top and take in the many different views point across the City Bowl, Table Bay, Atlantic Seaboard and Peninsula.

From Table Mountain your guide will take you back down into the city to visit the colourful Bo Kaap (Cape Malay Quarter), enjoy a walk through the Company Gardens and Greenmarket Square and an orientation drive taking in some of the important historical buildings (for example the Castle of Good Hope – South Africa’s oldest building), streets and features.

In the later part of the afternoon you will enjoy a 1-hour champagne pre-sunset cruise. With the bubbles of sparkling wine and superb views of the coastline from the Atlantic, it’s the perfect precursor to evening fun or the perfect ending to a busy day.

Table Mountain :

Table Mountain is the most iconic landmark of South Africa. Aside from being the country’s most photographed attraction and the perfect place to take photos of the landscape of Cape Town, it is also home to about 2,200 species of plants and 1,470 floral species, many of which are endemic to the mountain. Animal species that can be spotted on the mountain include caracals, rock hyraxes and chacma baboons. The flat top peak of the mountain reaches 1,086 metres above sea level, but being so close to the sea and to the city, its features look more imposing.

Bo-Kaap :

Bo-Kaap is a neighbourhood in Cape Town set on the slopes of Signal Hill and was originally established by members of the Cape Malay community who were brought to Cape Town during the 18th century as slaves. Bo-Kaap is known for its brightly coloured homes, beautiful mosques and vibrant culture. It is a popular tourist attraction and one of the most photographed areas in Cape Town. Visitors can explore the area on foot or take a guided tour to learn about its history and culture. Bo-Kaap is also home to many restaurants, cafes and shops offering traditional cuisine and handmade crafts from local artisans.

Cape Town is frequently acknowledged and awarded as being one of the world’s most beautiful places – this tour will show you why! Experience the spectacular natural splendour and abundance of life of the Cape Peninsula. With scenic views to take your breath away and photo opportunities galore this trip also takes you through a World Heritage Site – the Cape Floral Kingdom.

Travel along the Atlantic Seaboard to Hout Bay, passing magnificent beaches and the coastal suburbs of Clifton, Camps Bay and Llandudno. From the busy fishing harbour at Hout Bay you have the option of a boat trip to see the thousands of Cape Fur Seals living on a rocky outcrop. Browse for souvenirs at the Hout Bay Craft Market or take a walk on the beach and paddle your feet in the sea.

The tour continues over Chapman’s Peak, known as one of the most spectacular scenic drives in the world, all the way along the Peninsula to the southern tip at Cape Point. An invigorating walk takes you to the two lighthouses at the top and bottom of the headland, from where you will enjoy extraordinary views of the cliffs and the ocean below. Alternatively, you could take an optional short funicular ride to the top. Take a photo down at the most south-western point of the African continent at the Cape of Good Hope beach.

Lunch will be enjoyed at a seaside restaurant (excluded and for your own account) before we make our way along the False Bay coastline to the Naval village of Simon’s Town. We will visit the delightful African Penguins of Boulders Beach and then the drive takes us back via Cape Town’s coastal and southern suburbs.

Hout Bay :

The originally small fishing village of Hout Bay is now a popular suburb of Cape Town. Over and above being a lovely family beach, it has many tourist attractions which include the World of Birds, a township tour to the vibrant Imizamo Yethu, arts and crafts, boat rides out to Seal Island and some great, casual restaurants where you can relax and enjoy the surroundings.

Hout Bay Harbour :

Hout Bay’s active harbour serves a variety of fishing boats, charter boats and yachts. It is also the departure point for boat trips to the nearby Seal Island, home to a colony of around 6 000 Cape Fur Seals. The bustling port area also has a well-known seafood restaurant and a shop selling fresh fish.

Chapman's Peak :

Chapman’s Peak Drive winds its way between Noordhoek and Hout Bay. Situated on the Atlantic Coast, at the southwestern tip of South Africa, it is one of the most spectacular scenic drives in the world. The 9km route, with its 114 curves, skirts the rocky coastline of Chapman's Peak. The drive offers stunning 180-degree views with many areas along the route where visitors can stop and take in the scenery or sit down for a relaxing picnic.

Cape Point :

Cape Point is a spectacular sight, covered in endemic fynbos and home to breathtaking bays, beaches and rolling green hills and valleys, just 60km outside of Cape Town. Cape Point falls within the Cape Floral Region, a World Heritage Site. The Cape Floral Region is one of the richest areas for plants in the world – it is home to nearly 20% of Africa’s flora. Cape Point is open daily and is a must-see.

Cape of Good Hope :

Cape of Good Hope is located near the southernmost tip of the African continent in South Africa. The cape is surrounded by beaches, coves, and cliffs, making it a popular location for sightseeing. The Cape of Good Hope is well known for its rich history. It was an important stop on the early trade routes between Europe and Asia. Today, the location is a popular tourist attraction. It provides visitors with stunning views and is also home to a variety of wildlife.

Boulders Beach :

Boulders Beach is located in Cape Town, South Africa. It is a sheltered beach made up of inlets between granite boulders and crystal clear waters. The area is home to one of the largest breeding colonies of African penguins. Visitors can observe the penguins close up from elevated boardwalks while enjoying beautiful views. It is a popular location for swimming, snorkelling, and birdwatching.

Simon's Town :

Nestled on False Bay within easy distance of Cape Town, South Africa, Simon's Town is rich in history, character, atmosphere and warmth. This morning a representative from the car rental company will deliver your rental vehicle to you at your hotel at 08.30. Please ensure that you have a copy of your valid driver’s license, your car rental voucher and a valid credit card in order for the delivery to take place. Cheque cards and cash will NOT be acceptable, only a credit card for the holding deposit.

We suggest a 09.00/10.00 departure for the next leg of your South African adventure – exploring the beautiful Garden Route.

Travel along the famous Route 62 from the Cape Winelands en route to Oudtshoorn. This route has previously been named "World's Best Road Trip Destination" by CNN! There are lots of interesting stops and places to discover along the way and it is also known to be “The World’s Longest Wine Route”. A good place to stop about halfway through the journey is Barrydale, where there a few options for lunch (for your own account).

Check-in at your accommodation and enjoy the peaceful and picturesque setting on a working ostrich farm. Dinner (for your own account) can either be enjoyed at your accommodation or at a restaurant in the town.

Oudtshoorn :

Located along the well-known Route 62 in South Africa’s beautiful Klein Karoo, the charming town of Oudtshoorn is known as the ostrich capital of the world. It is surrounded by numerous ostrich farms and the golden arid landscape of the Karoo. Visitors can enjoy the locally produced wine and port; sample ostrich meat and biltong; learn about the ostrich feather boom at the C.P. Nel Museum; and visit the world-renowned Cango Caves, the largest cave system in Africa featuring ancient rock formations and sparkling stalactites and stalagmites. Other popular activities include: mountain biking, paragliding, horse riding, and taking a day trip to the quaint town of Prince Albert over the scenic Swartberg Pass.

Route 62 :

Meandering from the cosmopolitan city of Cape Town to the Karoo town of Oudtshoorn, through a series of fascinating small towns and breathtaking scenery, Route 62 is the longest Wine Route in the world. Lush greenery and fertile valleys form a stark contrast against the semi-desert of the Klein Karoo, while towering mountains and their rivers and streams provide an awe-inspiring backdrop throughout. Some of the renowned attractions visitors will spot as they follow the route are the Winelands of the Breede River Valley, the majestic Swartberg Mountains, the Cango Caves and ostrich farms of Oudtshoorn, and the fruit orchards of the Langkloof Valley.

Depart your hotel at 09.00 sharp for your full day self-drive trip in Oudtshoorn. After the tour you will travel to Knysna which lies 120km (2-hours drive) from Oudtshoorn, traveling over the spectacular Outeniqua Pass and onto the Garden Route.

Your first stop will be at the Cango Caves, which are situated 30km / 30-minutes’ drive outside of Oudtshoorn. Here you will join the Heritage Tour at 11.00 - an easy walk through the first six largest and most spectacular halls and continuing through to the "African Drum room". This tour commences with information on the real discoverers and inhabitants of the cave and then winds its way through the rest of the Caves’ cultural and historical heritage. A comfortable walk through the most majestic of the cave chambers.  Experienced and knowledgeable guides will accompany you on this journey of discovery and knowledge which takes around 1-hour to complete.

Next you will go on to the Cango Wildlife Ranch in time for a quick lunch at the restaurant there, followed by a guided 1-hour tour of the facility. The ranch has been in existence for 35 years and comprises of over 90 different species of animals. The guided tours provide a voice for each species and create animal and environmental awareness. Enveloped in a fun and unique setting, this is a one-of-a-kind centre that has something for everyone, 365 days of the year!

Your last stop for the day is Safari Ostrich Farm for a guided tractor tour where you will get to meet and learn more about these large flightless birds that have had such a big impact on the economy of the town. This tour also takes 1-hour, after which you can shop for some ostrich leather products in the shop.
You will then travel to Knysna, arriving at your hotel in the early evening.

Knysna :

Sandwiched between the towering Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean, Knysna is a large town often referred to as the ‘Garden of Eden’, surrounded by stunning bays perfect for sailing, boating, and swimming; picturesque beaches and lagoons; and world-renowned forests. This well-catered town is also a perfect base for safari expeditions at nearby parks such as Knysna Elephant Park, and close-up animal experiences at centres such as Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary, Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre, Birds of Eden, and Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary. From here, enjoy ample opportunities for surfing, swimming, yachting, jet-skiing, boating, fishing, and golfing. Visitors can also look forward to an array of wonderful markets, a picturesque waterfront filled with superb restaurants and shops, and several fantastic art galleries. Cango Caves :

Set on the foothills of the Swartberg Mountains near Oudtshoorn, South Africa, the Cango Caves are a mesmerizing natural wonder. These limestone caverns, formed over millions of years, boast a labyrinth of awe-inspiring chambers and breathtaking formations where visitors can embark on guided tours that take them through a series of magnificent chambers, such as the Great Hall and Cleopatra's Needle. Enjoy a complimentary 90 min cruise on "The Boat" at the St James.  Skipper Alex Mvandaba will take guests upriver to the Belvidere and the White bridge section of the lagoon. This section is only really accessible by private boat as most of the other cruises are to the Heads and back. This area is steeped in history – in fact the early ships used to moor in front of the Belvidere area, rather than the current harbor area.

The Knysna Estuary is biologically the richest estuary in the Cape, and one of the largest. “A remarkable diversity of species is recorded here, the highest of any South African estuary. It is of course also home to the unique Knysna Seahorse, Hippocampus capensis.”

After your morning game drive and breakfast at the lodge you will take a leisurely drive to Gqeberha. 

Spend the afternoon exploring and discovering South Africa's "Friendly City". 

Your final evening in South Africa will be a special treat at your hotel where you will enjoy a fine dining 3-course dinner at the award winning restaurant.

Set on Algoa Bay in South Africa’s Eastern Cape Province, Port Elizabeth also referred to as PE, is known as the Friendly City as well as the Windy City. Port Elizabeth was established to home British settlers who were brought out on a government-sponsored programme to provide a buffer between the Cape Dutch and the Xhosa conflict.
