Arrival in Cape Town

Upon arrival at Cape Town International Airport you will be met by your driver-guide, who will be with you for the duration of your time in Cape Town, and transferred to your boutique hotel in Camps Bay. Your guide will meet you in the arrival hall with a name board showing your name. Please call or WhatsApp the emergency contact number on your travel vouchers in the unlikely event that you do not manage to locate your guide.

You will be met by your guide in your hotel reception area and taken on a Half Day Cape Town City Orientation Tour to learn about Cape Town’s rich history and vibrant cultures.  The day starts with a cableway trip to the top of one of the World’s Natural Wonders Table Mountain, also the city’s most iconic and recognisable landmark. Explore the walking trails at the top and take in the many different views point across the City Bowl, Table Bay, Atlantic Seaboard and Peninsula.

From Table Mountain your guide will take you back down into the city to visit the colourful Bo Kaap (Cape Malay Quarter), enjoy a walk through the Company Gardens and Greenmarket Square and an orientation drive taking in some of the important historical buildings (for example the Castle of Good Hope – South Africa’s oldest building), streets and features.

Cape Town is frequently acknowledged and awarded as being one of the world’s most beautiful places – this tour will show you why! Experience the spectacular natural splendour and abundance of life of the Cape Peninsula. With scenic views to take your breath away and photo opportunities galore this trip also takes you through a World Heritage Site – the Cape Floral Kingdom.

Travel along the Atlantic Seaboard to Hout Bay, passing magnificent beaches and the coastal suburbs of Clifton, Camps Bay and Llandudno. From the busy fishing harbour at Hout Bay you have the option of a boat trip to see the thousands of Cape Fur Seals living on a rocky outcrop. Browse for souvenirs at the Hout Bay Craft Market or take a walk on the beach and paddle your feet in the sea.

The tour continues over Chapman’s Peak, known as one of the most spectacular scenic drives in the world, all the way along the Peninsula to the southern tip at Cape Point. An invigorating walk takes you to the two lighthouses at the top and bottom of the headland, from where you will enjoy extraordinary views of the cliffs and the ocean below. Alternatively, you could take an optional short funicular ride to the top. Take a photo down at the most south-western point of the African continent at the Cape of Good Hope beach.

Lunch will be enjoyed at a seaside restaurant (excluded and for your own account) before we make our way along the False Bay coastline to the Naval village of Simon’s Town. We will visit the delightful African Penguins of Boulders Beach and then the drive takes us back via Cape Town’s coastal and southern suburbs.

Travel along the famous Route 62 from the Cape Winelands en route to Oudtshoorn. This route has previously been named "World's Best Road Trip Destination" by CNN! There are lots of interesting stops and places to discover along the way and it is also known to be “The World’s Longest Wine Route”. A good place to stop about half way through the journey is Barrydale, where there a few options for lunch (for your own account).

Check-in at your accommodation and enjoy the peaceful and picturesque setting. Dinner (for your own account) can either be enjoyed at your accommodation or at a restaurant in the town – dinner transfers are included in the services.

Oudtshoorn :

Located along the well-known Route 62 in South Africa’s beautiful Klein Karoo, the charming town of Oudtshoorn is known as the ostrich capital of the world. It is surrounded by numerous ostrich farms and the golden arid landscape of the Karoo. Visitors can enjoy the locally produced wine and port; sample ostrich meat and biltong; learn about the ostrich feather boom at the C.P. Nel Museum; and visit the world-renowned Cango Caves, the largest cave system in Africa featuring ancient rock formations and sparkling stalactites and stalagmites. Other popular activities include: mountain biking, paragliding, horse riding, and taking a day trip to the quaint town of Prince Albert over the scenic Swartberg Pass.

Route 62 :

Meandering from the cosmopolitan city of Cape Town to the Karoo town of Oudtshoorn, through a series of fascinating small towns and breathtaking scenery, Route 62 is the longest Wine Route in the world. Lush greenery and fertile valleys form a stark contrast against the semi-desert of the Klein Karoo, while towering mountains and their rivers and streams provide an awe-inspiring backdrop throughout. Some of the renowned attractions visitors will spot as they follow the route are the Winelands of the Breede River Valley, the majestic Swartberg Mountains, the Cango Caves and ostrich farms of Oudtshoorn, and the fruit orchards of the Langkloof Valley.

Depart your hotel at 09.00 sharp for your full day self-drive trip in Oudtshoorn. 

Your first stop will be at the Cango Caves, which are situated 30km / 30-minutes’ drive outside of Oudtshoorn. Here you will join the Heritage Tour at 11.00 - an easy walk through the first six largest and most spectacular halls and continuing through to the "African Drum room". This tour commences with information on the real discoverers and inhabitants of the cave and then winds its way through the rest of the Caves’ cultural and historical heritage. A comfortable walk through the most majestic of the cave chambers.  Experienced and knowledgeable guides will accompany you on this journey of discovery and knowledge which takes around 1-hour to complete.

Next you will go on to the Cango Wildlife Ranch in time for a quick lunch at the restaurant there, followed by a guided 1-hour tour of the facility. The ranch has been in existence for 35 years and comprises of over 90 different species of animals. The guided tours provide a voice for each species and create animal and environmental awareness. Enveloped in a fun and unique setting, this is a one-of-a-kind centre that has something for everyone, 365 days of the year!

Your last stop for the day is Safari Ostrich Farm for a guided tractor tour where you will get to meet and learn more about these large flightless birds that have had such a big impact on the economy of the town. This tour also takes 1-hour, after which you can shop for some ostrich leather products in the shop.

Cango Caves Heritage Tour :

Cango Caves Heritage Tour is a 60 minute tour, lead by experienced, knowledgeable and accredited cave guides. All tours are offered in English, but provision can be made for Afrikaans, German and French speakers when booking. The heritage tour gives visitors insight into the six halls, chambers and rooms within the caves, as well as a close up view of stalactites, stalagmites, and a colony of bats that have made the cave their home.

Cango Caves :

Set on the foothills of the Swartberg Mountains near Oudtshoorn, South Africa, the Cango Caves are a mesmerizing natural wonder. These limestone caverns, formed over millions of years, boast a labyrinth of awe-inspiring chambers and breathtaking formations where visitors can embark on guided tours that take them through a series of magnificent chambers, such as the Great Hall and Cleopatra's Needle. Marvel at the stalactites, stalagmites, and stunning dripstone formations that adorn the cave walls. The Cango Caves offer different tour options, catering to varying levels of difficulty and adventure. Safari Ostrich Showfarm :

The Safari Ostrich Showfarm is an ostrich farm located in Oudtshoorn, Garden Route, South Africa. The farm is approximately 1800 hectares in size and boasts a beautiful old homestead build with sandstone called a “Feather Palace”. 

This is the first ostrich farm in Oudtshoorn and South Africa where the Kenyan Red and Zimbabwe Blue Ostriches can be seen. Visitors will also get to see White Ostriches and the second biggest bird in the world, namely the Emu from Australia.

The tour also consists of a visit to the Incubator Room where chicks are hatched inside incubators. The room is fitted with a “Spy-Camera” which allows for a real close and personal perspective of the hatching process.

Day 11 : Amakhala Hlosi Game Lodge, Amakhala Game Reserve  (B / L / D)

The exciting safari part of your tour starts today! Travel into the Eastern Cape province to the Amakhala Private Game Reserve. 

You will be greeted on arrival at your Amakhala's Lodge with refreshing hand towels and served drinks in the lounge or on the pool deck overlooking the swimming pool. While baggage is delivered to their room, you will be advised of your itinerary. 

Lunch is served at 2:00pm, after which your will have a chance to relax, read a book from the library or try your hand at Hlosi's other activities such as archery. The afternoon game drive will hten depart in the late afternoon, the duration of a game drive is usually 3 hours depending on the amount of time spent stationary while viewing game. Bottled water, beverages and light snacks such as biltong are provided en route and the vehicle will stop in order for guests to alight and enjoy a sundowner at sunset.

Dinner back at the lodge may consist of a three course meal served by the crackling fireplace in the warm atmosphere of the lodge.  After enjoying dinner, you are invited to socialise until the small hours of the morning or to retire to the comfort and luxury of your suite. 

Amakhala Game Reserve :

Located between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown and just east of Addo Elephant Park, the Amakhala Game Reserve is the perfect place to enjoy Big Five Safaris. Featuring spectacular topography created by the Bushman’s River, the reserve is home to a huge array of animal species - besides the big five, visitors can also spot cheetah, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, plenty of antelope species, and many other smaller interesting animals. 

Amakhala is also inhabited by prolific birdlife (the majestic African Fish Eagle is a particular highlight), and idyllic boat cruises provide a delightful way to see this. Visitors can also enjoy a variety of fantastic game drives, guided walks, and horse trails. Just outside the park, there are plenty of attractions to discover, including the Amakhala Craft Centre, and the Bushman Sands Golf Course and Health Spa.

Full day on safari :

Awaken to the chorus of an African dawn and ready for another day of adventure! You will be served coffee, tea and cereals and yoghurts in the main lodge half an hour before the monring game drive commences. Game rangers will halt whenever requested and share their expertise with guests. Game rangers will also stop and allow guests to alight from the vehicle for a steaming cup of coffee which is traditionally enjoyed with rusks (a South African biscuit).

On returning from the morning game drive, you will have have 30 minutes at disposal to freshen up before brunch is served. Breakfast/brunch is usually buffet style with a choice of fresh fruit, as well as sweet pastries, toast and jams. Following this, a full cooked breakfast is available.

After brunch you are welcome to relax at the refreshing pool or enjoy a nap after the excitement of the game drive, depending on your preference. You will have have enough time to relax and the lodge staff will strive to accommodate every need. River Cruise :

A fun add on to your stay on Amakhala Game Reserve is our river cruise. The boat meanders down the Bushman’s river, bursting with incredible bird and plant life. 

The cruise is an hour long and to be enjoyed at your leisure with mouth-watering snacks and ice-cold beverages. Perfect way to spend your day during the warm weather. All river cruises are made by prior arrangement.

Extra Activities at Hlosi :

Enjoy the various extra activities that Hlosi Game Lodge has to offer, from Night Drives, Star Gazing, Birding, Bush Walks, Archery, Spa Therapy and Fishing.
